Dental Cleanings

Routine dental cleanings are important to maintaining good oral hygiene. Professional cleaning by a dentist can remove mineralized plaque that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. It is recommended you have a cleaning once every six months or we can taylor a program to your specific needs.

How it's done
You can expect your dental cleaning to last between 10 minutes and an hour depending on how many teeth are involved. Most people find that dental cleanings are painless, and do not cause any discomfort.

There are two important steps to a dental cleaning. The first step is scaling the teeth, whereby the dentist will remove the plaque and tartar from the tooth surfaces. Typically, the dentist will also dig into the pockets of the gums to remove any plaque buildup there.

After cleaning it is sometimes beneficial to have an adult flouride treatment to help reduce the chances of new decay formation.  Your dentist will let you know if this treatment would effective to your oral health.

The second step is polishing to remove any final plaque and buff the teeth.

At the conclusion of the apointment our dentist will go over your oral hygiene program and  make accommodations for any disabilities that may prevent you from performing daily oral hygiene.
